Smart Home Devices

Time:2021-04-14

Smart homes rely on sensors to detect movement (example, smart doorbells), listen for sound (example, glass break detectors or speakers) and a wealth of other functions.  For many such devices, the event the sensors are trying to detect (such as movement or sound) may occur infrequently but without warning, so the device must continually be prepared for it.  Once the sensor has been triggered, the device must then perform its intended functionality, whether that is recording who is at the door, sounding an alarm or otherwise activating the device.  This requires a battery that can cope with very low background activity but with periodic high current pulses when the sensors are activated.

However, the characteristics for the ideal battery do not end there.  Due to the increasing trend for making next-generation devices smaller and lighter, non-rechargeable batteries are still proving popular for home automation applications, due to their high energy density.  Many smart home devices must also have a battery that can be replaced by the consumer.

Ultralife China (ABLE) took these factors into consideration when designing a range of non-rechargeable cells and batteries for smart home equipment.

What can Ultralife China (ABLE) offer?

ABLE manufactures a wide range of cells and batteries that utilize Lithium Manganese Dioxide; a chemistry Ultralife first introduced in its 9 Volt battery that proved popular in smoke alarms (over 100 million sold worldwide).

The 9 Volt battery is comprised of multiple 3 Volt Thin Cells®, which are square in shape rather than round.  Due to the compactness of Thin Cells® and their high energy density, they are incredibly popular as a standalone product and ideal for powering security sensors in a discreet way that reduces the likelihood of detection/unwanted removal.

Another popular form of battery, used by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in the home automation market, is the CR123A.  These lightweight cells have stable output voltages, high energy density, wide working temperature range, low self-discharge, high reliability and a 10-year shelf-life.

In summary, why choose us?

Ø  Benefit from Ultralife's 25 years' experience in the safety and security market (knowledge transferred to ABLE in 2006)

Ø  Cells and batteries made from the same Lithium Manganese Dioxide chemistry that has proven successful in medical and military applications (a testament to its quality and reliability)

Ø  Worldwide engineering and technical support available (Ultralife has manufacturing facilities in the United States, United Kingdom and China)

Ø  Continuous research and development (keeping at the forefront of battery technology)
